Elias started counting with words today. Well, word. He "counts" up to five with me, pointing at a series of items when I ask him how many, but usually just says "Uhh...Uhh...Uhh..." along with my "One...Two...Three..." When unloading the dishwasher (pretty much his only "chore"), he identifies the items as he takes them out one by one then hands them to me to put away. So, tonight, I got lots of "Mama's spoon," "Elias' [spoon]," "bowl" "big plate" and so on... then he said "two!" and handed me 2 spoons together. He doubled up one more time, on his forks, and again handed them off to me proclaiming "two!" I guess he figures one of something is self-evident, and only an unusual pairing up deserves a spoken description.
I'm getting more two word spoken sentences now, too, although he's signed 2-3 words together for a while now, and of course "Pleeeeeze" added to book and cookie requests. This morning he ran up to me and very clearly said "Eat, apple" then got very excited when I actually went and sliced up an apple for him. This was extra neat, because I think I've only given him a raw apple a couple times, the last one probably months ago. He must've seen that Granny Smith I had in the fruit bowl and'd been thinking about it.
